To our valued SARC clients,

You may have recently received a letter from Public Advocates, Inc. regarding a "Notice of Need to Comply with School Accountability Report Card Obligations."

I wanted to take the opportunity to clarify a couple points of the letter, as I have personally spoke with both the CDE and an attorney from Public Advocates, Inc. about the contents of the letter.

The letter stated- "The deadline for the district to update and publicize its SARCs for the 2005-2006 academic school year is May 31, 2006."

Clarifications

1. The SARC that is to be published during the 2005-06 school year is a report of the 2004-05 school year.

2. May 31,2006 is not a firm deadline, but merely a guideline to be used as a "target date" for having SARCs publicized. The truth is a SARC must be completed by the end of the school year, which technically means districts have until their last day of school to issue/publicize their SARCs.

If would like to contact the CDE directly, please call Joe Radding at 916-319-0421, or send him an email at
sarc@cde.ca.gov

Sincerely,

Brandi Bier
