On February 22, 2007, the State Controller’s Office released the claiming instructions and parameters and guidelines for Charter Schools III. This new claim covers fiscal years 1998-99 through 2006-07 and is due to the State by July 23, 2007. Any school district or county office of education is eligible to file a claim for reimbursement. Charter schools are not eligible claimants.
The following activities are reimbursable:
1. Upon denial of a charter petition making written findings of fact that:
· The charter school presents an unsound educational program
· Petitioners are unlikely to successfully implement the educational program
· The petition does not include the required number of signatures or
· The petition does not contain reasonably comprehensive descriptions
2. Transferring funds in monthly installments in lieu of property taxes for district sponsored charter.
3. Including revenues and expenditures generated by the charter school in your annual statement if your district is the chartering authority.
As of July 1, 2007, this mandate will be consolidated into Charter Schools I, II & III.
